PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There is an interesting and serious report in the journal JAMA Psychiatry. It takes a look suicide in a very vulnerable age group – adolescents.
Suicide is known to be the third leading cause of death among teens. In this particular study conducted at the University of Michigan and Harvard, it was found that 12.1-percent thought about suicide. Four percent had suicide plans and 4.1-percent actually attempted suicide.
The key points: 60-percent of those with the plan actually go on to tempt suicide and it is that first year after seriously thinking about ending their lives that is the most dangerous for teens.
